Auditioning for the Camera, with Erin Way
Sunday Oct 18th, 12-3 PM PST
With over 15 years of experience in the Television Industry, the art of putting an audition on tape is highly valuable for anyone wanting to become a working actor. I believe that even post Covid, most auditions will now be "self-tape". Through this course, I'll give you the skills to make sure that you put your best foot forward. We will work on camera set-up, lighting, deciding on outfits and, most importantly, we will work on audition scenes that you can watch back and learn from.
A week before the class takes place, I will contact each of attendee via email to see what type of material they would like to focus on (drama, comedy, etc). Then everyone will be emailed sides to work on before class takes place. The class will be set up in the style of an on-camera audition, with the "reader" role being done by another attendee. I will record the audition and then via screen share, we will watch it back and talk about what I see, notes on adjustments, etc. While it can be awkward to watch oneself, it is a vital tool in learning how to have a strong on-tape audition. In reality, there is no one in an on-tape setting to give you notes or adjustments, so it is important that one learns to self direct in order to submit the best tape possible.
At the end of class we will wrap up with a quick Q&A and then later in the week I will share your tape via Dropbox if you so desire.
Let's have fun and learn!
