Music of the Crossroads: The Jewish Roots of Flamenco

Music of the Crossroads

The Jewish Roots of Flamenco

In this hourlong multimedia lecture, we will be exploring the little known influence of Jewish music and culture on the developing art of flamenco. In the cities and countryside of Andalucía, Southern Spain, there was an overlap of cultures that resulted in this rich musical heritage.

The lecture has previously been presented at the UCLadino Society Conference at UCLA. It will feature audio and video clips to enhance our understanding and appreciation of this beautiful music and dance.

(A perfect learning experience for this Jewish New Year season, right between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.)
