Rock Climbing Outside for Beginners

Free intro course!! In this free session, I'll help you make safe and affordable gear choices for climbing outside.

Climbing outside is THE best! This course is live virtual instruction from a professional climbing instructor.

Who should take this course:

  • Adults who want to get back into the sport and need to freshen up their skills or learn best practices.

  • Adults who want to learn climbing basics

  • Kids who want to expand their knowledge (Lessons are designed based on their developmental stages).

  • Parents who want to climb with their kids

The course is broken into 3 topics with a total of 4 sessions.

Topic 1: Basics- 1 session

Safety systems, climbing, trip planning and climbing ethics.

Topic 2: Climbing - 1 session

Knots and top rope climbing.

Topic 3: Belaying and Rappelling - 2 sessions

Sharpen your belay skills and learn about different belay tools and learn best practices for rappelling.

Students will need some equipment to effectively participate, which we'll go over in the free session.

  • 10 ft of 10mm climbing rope (static or dynamic)

  • Rock climbing harness

  • 2 locking carabiners

  • 120cm pre-sewn nylon sling or 150cm of tubular webbing

  • A belay/ rappel device

Teacher's Bio: I started climbing in college and was scared to death. But I had patient mentors and loved being outside. 20 years later I’ve climbed all of the world and have taught countless students climbing and wilderness skills. MA in Adventure Education, Certified through the American Mountain Guides Association as an Indoor climbing instructor and single pitch instructor candidate. Leave no trace master educator through National Outdoor Leadership School.
