Overview
Draw inspiration from the world around in this 5-week poetry course where the focus is on you and your environment.
Course Description
Starting March 6th, you will read and respond to works of poetry while receiving weekly writing assignments that will make learning about poetry practical and applicable to your everyday life. In that way, you’ll see how your everyday world can inspire your writing and how writing can quickly become a practical routine.
In this course, you will have an opportunity to not only read works from poets and authors who draw inspiration from within but you will have an opportunity to do the same by writing and sharing your own work. You will participate in the writing workshop practice in this way by bringing a copy of your work each week to be shared. The rest of the class will listen and make constructive suggestions for possible revisions and will point out the works’ strengths for the author.
No prior skills are necessary. Come to the table as you are and quickly you will begin to gain more self-confidence as a writer throughout this supportive and inspiring course.
This course will be a combination of class discussion, student presentation, and instructor-led lecture. You will learn about free-verse poems, pastoral poems, Irish triads, list poems, and more.
